Don't buy any more new toys. Try to engage the child by challenging him or her to put together a jigsaw puzzle, learn how to play pick-up sticks, learn how to make something using clay, or make and use paperbag puppets.
Use the child's interests as a hint of what he or she would like to do.
Get the child involved in a simple supervised cooking activity, such as making jello or lemonade. Take the child to a library for story time and if the child is old enough, help him or her apply for a library card and borrow books.
Hope this helps!
Open your windows during the early morning or late evening, and allow fresh air to circulate. Use Febreeze to spray fabric items in your living room, ie, sofa, chairs, pillows. Buy and use a good quality scented candle.
Just some ideas, Buffy.
I'll try the windows
1. how do you get a child to play by themselves in their room??
Tell the child he/she can either play outside or in the bedroom, but he/she can't stay underfoot
2. how do I get my child to take an interest in new toys bought?
(after 2-3 days she don't care about playing with most new toys)
Don't buy the toys the first time the child sees it in the store. Wait until you see if the child will still be interested after a few more visits to the store. OR you could tell the child that if they aren't interested in playing with the toys you'll give them to needy kids who don't have ANY toys at all!
3. how do I get my house to smell better and less like smoke?
Lots of scented candles, open all the windows at least once a week [or more if possible] for several hours at a time, spray lots of Febreeze, OR start smoking outside! You'll never get the smell COMPLETELY out of the house, but at least it'll cut down on it a bit
